Körbruksberget, Naturreservat

Körbruksberget is one of the nature reserves established after the extensive fires that raged in Hälsingland in July 2018. The nature reserve provides an opportunity for visitors to experience the effects of the violent forces of the fires, but also how life is returning and how new forest types are developing after the fires. Körbruksberget Nature Reserve consists of a 117-hectare forest area located on the crest and slopes of Körbruksberget to the northeast, as well as on the Ljusnan sandy sediment north of the mountain. Older managed pine forests in the age range 100-120 years dominate in the area, but younger pine forests and some clearings are also included in the nature reserve. Elements of spruce and some leaves are found in some places on the mountain slope and in hollows and towards wetlands in the area. Natural coniferous mixed forest is found on parts of the steep and blocky north side of the mountain.

The entire area was affected by the forest fire in July 2018. The fire in the nature reserve was mainly low-intensity, which means that the survival of trees in the older forest is high. The fire-affected old forest with high survival after the forest fire makes the area very interesting from a nature value point of view.

A few wetlands and an area of acidic swamp with a small stream are also included in the area and contribute to increased variation within the nature reserve.

Be careful in the fire areas

Work on the nature reserves began immediately after the fires were extinguished. The County Administrative Board then inventoried the areas, first by helicopter and later also on site. The creation of the nature reserves is possible thanks to the fact that both private landowners and forestry companies have signed encroachment agreements with Gävleborg County Administrative Board.

In the years following the fires, many fire-damaged trees may fall, which means that it may be risky to visit the areas. Visitors to the areas are advised to exercise great caution.
