Beskrivelse
Kråkberget is located about a mil southwest of Mora. Below its southeastern slope lies the marsh that bears its name.
A small area with great diversity
Here you’ll find a little bit of everything—moist depressions with many different flowers, a large expanse of swamp forest consisting of alder marshes, and, on the higher ground, old-growth pine and spruce forests.
Flowers, mushrooms, lichens, and mosses
In the damp, nutrient-rich depressions, you can find wood anemones, lesser butterfly orchids, marsh marigolds, and several different species of orchids. How about meadow orchids, spider orchids, and coralroot? The sweet little golden powder lichen also grows here.
Since the area contains many dead, standing, and fallen trees, a wide variety of fungi and lichens thrive here as well. For example, rose tinder fungus, fragrant skin, and violet mussel can be mentioned, as well as the poetic names brown-powdered needle lichen, short-stemmed rust spike, and white-grained needle lichen.
The Area Is Part of Natura 2000
Kråkbergskärret is part of the European network of protected natural areas known as Natura 2000. Natura 2000 is an ecological network of valuable natural areas within the EU. The designation of Natura 2000 sites is based on requirements set forth in the EU’s Birds Directive and the Habitats Directive. The aim is to halt the extinction of wild animals and plants and to prevent the destruction of their habitats. All member states are required to designate areas for birds listed in the EU Birds Directive, as well as for habitat types and species listed in the Habitats Directive. By designating Natura 2000 sites, countries commit to the long-term conservation of the designated values within these areas. For each Natura 2000 site, the County Administrative Board must prepare a description, known as a conservation plan. This is incorporated into the management plan.
