Beskrivelse
Wooded slopes with views of Lake Racken.
The reserve consists of a southwestern slope with elements of steep slopes and groves. In the lower parts there is a nutrient-rich spruce forest of the low-growing type with long forest continuity, and higher up the slope the forest changes into a pine forest with old pine overhangs. The spruce forest contains many threatened and unusual soil fungi, probably as a result of the impact of greenstone.
The reserve area surrounds a property owned by an orienteering club. The area is a popular destination for everyday hikers and there are trails through the forest that are part of a larger trail system Link to another website, opens in new window.. From the highest point in the reserve, you can see Lake Racken and the villages around the lake. The area around Racken has great cultural-historical significance, among other things through the group of artists who settled here around the turn of the century 1900.
Animals and plants
The area has high biological values, mainly linked to the nutrient-rich spruce forest of the low-growing type on basic soil, and to the pine forest with older stands. Particularly valuable structures are older large trees and dead trees, both standing and lying, in various stages of decomposition.
The area is home to the red-listed species breadfruit (VU), spruce budworm (VU), porcelain blue spider mite (VU), yellow spider mite (NT) and three-toed woodpecker (NT).

The reserve is located in Värmlands län, Arvika municipality, about 4.4 kilometers northeast of Arvika town. From Arvika take highway 61 towards Karlstad. Just after the roundabout turn left towards Gunnarskog. Drive about 2 kilometers, turn right towards the slalom slope. Drive past the slalom slope, turn right at the sign Jössestugan.
Forskrifter
In addition to other statutory provisions, it is prohibited in the reserve to
- felling or otherwise damaging trees and bushes and removing or reprocessing dead trees or windfalls
- collect invertebrates, mosses, lichens and wood fungi
- driving a motorized vehicle, tipping or arranging storage.
Exceptions:
Prohibitions on driving motorized vehicles do not apply on existing roads and parking areas.
The regulations do not apply to the manager of the nature reserve, or the person hired by the manager, when carrying out the measures described under B and which are necessary to meet the purpose of the nature reserve.
