Frösunda Kyrka

Here stands the rune stone, whose cross is the symbol of these pilgrimages. It was found in the cemetery in 1991. The cross is surrounded by four tricorns, symbolizing the Trinity.

The 15th-century altarpiece in the church depicts the two great pilgrim saints of the North, St. Olav and St. Bridget. Norway's national saint, St. Olav, whose death in 1030 led to the Norwegians making a pilgrimage to Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim. Saint Bridget traveled to Nidaros Cathedral, to Santiago de Compostela and to Rome. She remained in Rome until the Pope approved her order - the Birgittine Order - in 1370.
