Beskrivelse
Märkedalen is a reserve consisting mainly of oak and beech forest. The terrain is dramatic with boulder slopes, loamy surfaces and steep slopes down to Lake Stora Neten. Märkedalen is difficult to access as there is no road to the reserve.
The reserve consists of several different habitat types. The habitat types with the highest conservation value are the century-old broadleaf forest in the form of heath beech forest and heath oak forest with beech. The difference in altitude is about 70 meters from the lake to the highest point of the reserve. Lake Stora Neten is the water source for Varberg municipality.
Plenty of dead wood
Within the reserve there are also areas of spruce forest and overgrown clearings, mixed forest as well as swamp forest and smaller swampy areas. The forest is in parts rich in dead wood. Goldilocks moss and the lichens glossy spot and wine spot have been found on late-growing oaks. These species are so-called signal species that indicate that the forest has high natural values with a long history of old trees.
History of the area
There has been forest here for around 350 years. According to old maps, the area was part of a large and important beech forest at Skällinge in 1650 (Skällinge Böge Skogh). At times, the human impact has been great; in 1850 the forest was probably very sparse. The name Märkedalen is old and can be found on a parcel map from 1816.

Märkedalen is located in Varberg municipality. The reserve is difficult to access by car, no public road all the way.
Forskrifter
To protect the nature reserve, the County Administrative Board has decided on special regulations, including those that you as a visitor to the area must follow and respect.
In addition to what applies under other legislation, it is forbidden to:
- break branches, cut down or otherwise damage living or dead standing and fallen trees and bushes,
- capture or collect invertebrates, lichens or mosses in such a way as to damage or destroy their biotopes or reproductive habitats
- erecting a billboard, poster, poster, sign or inscription
- dig or otherwise destroy or damage any fixed natural object or surface formation
- drive a motorized vehicle, other than on the road. The prohibition does not apply to holders of hunting rights for the transportation of large fallen game in accordance with the off-road driving regulations,
- have a tent, caravan, or motorhome within the reserve at 24-06,
- bring an unleashed dog with the exception of hunting with dogs or for searching,
- plant plant or animal species alien to the area,
- organize competitions, camps or other activities without the permission of the County Administrative Board, and
- without the permission of the County Administrative Board carry out scientific studies that are contrary to the regulations.

Märkedalen är ett litet vackert naturreservat beläget vid sjön Stora Neden. Hallandsleden går igenom reservatet. Om man följer stigen längs med Stora Neden kommer man till en oerhört fin liten sandstrand med ett litet rev i sjön. Här är perfekt för bad/simtur och fika.
