Lauks in Lokrume is one of the best-preserved medieval houses left in the countryside. You can see that the architecture is reminiscent of the contemporary buildings in Visby, right?

The medieval farmstead was owned by the country judge Gervid Lauk in the 14th century. He was then Gotland's highest judge. Today there is a two-storey stone house with an attic under a hipped roof. The facades are today unplastered. On the north and south gables there are two and three light openings respectively. The western long side has a light opening to one room.

On the ground floor there are two cross-vaulted rooms with separate entrances. The upper floor consists of two rooms separated by a wall of timber construction and above these a loft that has been covered with a barrel vault. At the level of the upper floor there used to be a wooden hallway.

The upper floor of the building was partially reconstructed after a collapse in 1915.

This type of building is found in both urban and rural areas in Sweden and Europe. The buildings often lack heating devices. They were probably not used for housing but for storage.

• The property is owned by Lokrume hembydsföreningen and is located next to residential buildings, remember to show consideration and do not leave any rubbish.
• There is space to park at the information sign, the building is clearly visible.
