Jättebergskällaren

Karl-Erik Forslund wrote in "Med Dalälven från källorna till havet" in the part about Svärdsjö: "Between Svedlunds and Danils stigen a high steep hill, covered by a huge morass of giant boulders with caves and gorges and passages, it is Jettbergs källarn, even wilder and more large-shaped than Trolltjörka in Bengtsheden."

Today we describe the place like this: In the eastern part of Lake Lilian lies Långnäsviken. At its southern tip and a few hundred meters southeast into the forest is Jättebergsgrottan.

Jättebergsgrottan is a typical fractured cave formed by the pressure of the land ice on the rock, in this case diorite. The cave forms a large and complex system of large caverns and narrow passages, as well as numerous openings in the rock face walls. The cave hall is 2.5 x 2.5 meters wide and 1.5 meters high. From it lead passages that together have a length of 15 meters.

**Unfortunately, the place is a bit hard to find, because there is no path leading there. But if you turn in at Bengtsheden and take the road towards Hillersboda, after Storsveden you pass a nameplate by the road, where it says Thure Ax. There you can stop the car and park by the roadside, and walk through the forest up the mountain and down to the cave. It's a bit tricky, but worth the effort for those interested in caves.
