Kuvaus
Here you will find an old spruce forest growing on soil containing lime. The forest on Mellgårdsbackarna has grown there for a long time. You can see this through the dead trees that stand or lie here and there. The forest consists mostly of spruces of different ages, some older pines and aspens. On the historical map from 1810, when the large-scale land consolidation was established, the area is shown as wooded land. Since then, no large-scale forestry measures have been carried out, and the forest has been allowed to develop relatively freely. According to the landowners, the forest was grazed until the 1970s.

Reittiohjeet
Seuraa E14-reittiä etelään Gällöstä. Käänny oikealle Grimnäsin kylästä. Noin 300 metrin kuluttua käänny vasemmalle. Noin 700 metrin päässä on tiepuomi, se on suljettu jalan kaksi viimeistä kilometriä luonnonsuojelualueelle.

Welcome to Mellgårdsbackarnas nature reserve. Please note that within the reserve it is not allowed to:
- pick and collect species of various kinds, with the exception of berries and edible mushrooms.
- climbing trees, staying near a bird of prey's nest, lair or pot, collecting animals or otherwise deliberately damaging or disturbing wildlife.
- damage the ground, boulders, vegetation, dry trees or other dead wood
Other rules apply if you want to conduct any kind of activity in the area, see the relevant reserve decision for full regulations. There may also be other laws to take into account, such as the Reindeer Husbandry Act.
