Taskberget, Naturreservat

When you drive between Iggesund and Sörforsa, you pass right through Taskberget nature reserve. Here in the cultural landscape on the shores of Lake Storsjön-Långsjön, there are 56 hectares of natural forest. After the storms of 2011 and 2013, almost all the spruces on an area of 2 hectares have blown over. Be aware that it can be dangerous to walk among storm-felled trees. Despite the name, it is not a high mountain you meet, but a softly rolling forest landscape from the east down to the lake in the west.

If you stop at the parking lot along the way, you will experience a natural area with varied environments and natural forest character. Follow the small forest road down towards the lake and there used to be a tall and very rough spruce forest.

Valuable for many

Within the nature reserve, the trees must not be cut down and driven away, but left to rot and become food and shelter for endangered species. The large amount of dead wood in the area provides high natural values. Remember that it can be dangerous to move around near and inside the fallen trees.

In other parts of the forest, the spruces grow together with large pines and there is a large proportion of deciduous trees, including large aspens. Other traces of older times are areas that were previously used as farmland. There are also remains of old fences. In the areas that were previously grazed, many different herbs grow, such as the knapweed.

Many different bird species nest in the Taskberget nature reserve. Due to the varied nature, many species have been found in Taskberget. These include the lesser spotted woodpecker, grey woodpecker, three-toed woodpecker and the common crow.
