Överlida Church

Modern, 60's church

The construction of Överlida church began in 1962 after Mjöbäck parish received a donation from farmer Fritz Pettersson, "Finnaboarvet". The gifts did not end there, however, but would be more.

About the church

The church was designed by the local architect Nils Halla. In 1962, construction began on this, "the church of gifts", was inaugurated by Bishop Bo Giertz on December 22, 1963. The baptismal font was donated by Älvsered's parish and is made of gray stone and made at the beginning of this century. The organ was built at Tostareds Orgelfabrik.

The belfry was inaugurated at the same time as the church. It has two bells. The large bell was donated by Alfred Lindqvist and his wife, and the small bell is a gift from the local community association.

The altarpiece in the chancel was carved by the famous artist Eva Spångberg in 1993 and depicts, in the middle section, how the Risen Lord appears to two disciples in Emmaus: "When he broke the bread, they recognized him." The left-hand door depicts old Symeon with the baby Jesus in the temple, and the right-hand door depicts Jesus and Martha and Mary.
