Beskrivelse
Halle–Vagnaren offers a challenging hike where the reward is breathtaking views and an untouched pine forest.
The old pine trees at the summit spark the imagination with their wind-swept and twisted forms. It is unusual for this forest to have been left standing in Bohuslän, and this is likely due to the difficult-to-navigate terrain.
The nature reserve features a blue-marked loop trail of about 5 km. The starting point is a set of stairs and an information sign at the reserve boundary, a short walk along a gravel road from the reserve parking lot.
The climb is steep, but at the top, views of Singlefjorden await that will make you want to stay a long time. On a clear day, you can see the peaks of the Norwegian mountains Lifjäll and Gausta. The mountain peaks are most visible when they’re still covered in snow. The highest point is 120 meters above sea level.
At the summit, there is a burial mound with a granite pillar inside it. The pillar is a survey marker from the 1876 European Geodetic Survey, which measured the shape of the Earth. The initiative began in 1862 with measurements taken from Sicily to Trøndelag in Norway.
Down toward Lake Vagnsjön, the landscape shifts from heather and conifers to a more lush vegetation with deciduous trees.
