Biosfärleden Etapp 9 Karleby-Mariestad

Section 9 begins in the picturesque village of Karleby, a place rich in history, and continues toward Mariestad. The trail follows gravel and paved roads through open landscapes, forested areas, and small settlements.

Through the forest you soon reach the shore of Lake Vänern and the beautiful Sandviken beach, a nature reserve shaped by the Ice Age and known for its unique shoreline environment.

Along the way you pass bathing areas and natural sites that offer plenty of opportunities for rest and relaxation. These areas provide sandy beaches, viewpoints, and old oak groves that offer pleasant shade on warm days.

After Ekudden, only a couple of kilometers remain before you reach Mariestad. The town offers both cultural environments and essential services. The Old Town is one of Sweden’s best-preserved historic centers, and Mariestad Cathedral, with its tall tower, rises as a welcoming landmark.
