Hjälmaredocka

The Hjälmare Canal is the country's oldest man-made waterway, dating back to 1629, which is still navigable. Historically, the canal was of great importance for trade. The canal is used by pleasure boats and passenger ships, but the area is also an attractive tourist destination. There are nine locks here, which are still opened and closed by hand, just as they were in the 17th century. Locks from Gravudden and Notholmen, daily from mid-June to mid-August. Hjälmare dock is a good starting point for exploring the canal, with cafés/restaurants during the summer and tourist information where you can find out what there is to experience in the area, as well as plenty of parking and pitches. Here you will find both cycling and hiking trails. There is a swimming area at Kvarnsjön, which is very close by.
