Ebba Brahes lusthus

At the beginning of the 17th century, a bar iron forge with three hammers was built at Bockhammar. The mill was bought shortly afterwards by the king Magnus Brahe, who already owned the mill in Uttersberg. His daughter Ebba Brahe inherited Bockhammar in 1633. Bockhammar Mill was in operation between 1607 and 1880. The gazebo and the large, timber-framed manor house from 1817 are today virtually all that remains of the old mill.

In her youth, Ebba Brahe (1596-1674) had a romantic love affair with King Gustav II Adolf. However, their planned marriage was prevented by the king's mother. Instead, the twenty-four-year-old Ebba married the field marshal Jacob de la Gardie. The couple had 14 children. After her husband's death in 1652, Ebba Brahe firmly controlled the family's many estates and factories around Sweden.

Many legends abound about Ebba Brahe, describing her as a good and honorable woman. The beautiful love story with Gustav II Adolf in the area around Bockhammar has fed the imagination and romance. As a beautiful guardian angel, she is said to appear in the park around the gazebo to urge people to be good and faithful. According to legend, she had two songs in her heart since her youth, which she sang from the gazebo, one in major and the other in minor. After her death in 1674, the birds on Bockholmen sang her songs.
