Beskrivelse

Matsdalsvägen-Klitvallens rest shelter

1.5 km one way.

A very easy hike from the parking lot at Matsdalsvägen through spruce and mountain birch forest to Klitvallens rest shelter. The shelter has a wood stove. During parts of the year, associations from Dikanäs serve food in the shelter. In the 1950s and 1960s, slalom was skied in the wide cutting that is now growing back. In summer, the vegetation around the picnic shelter is very lush, with tall angelica, Nordic wolfsbane and buttercups. In winter, trail maintenance varies, as there is no public ski or snowmobile trail to the shelter.

The view from Klitvallen's long mountain plateau towards the surrounding mountains and valleys is breathtaking. Where the spruce forest turns into mountain birch forest is the now abandoned Klitvallen community center. It was originally an autumn and spring settlement but later became a year-round settlement. The settlement was in use until the 1950s. From the beginning there were five huts. Two turf huts and a pole hut are preserved. There is also a reindeer enclosure. Good opportunities to study the birds and animals of the mountains in different environments. Perhaps the lichen jay is looking out at Klitvallen's sampler, a cheeky lemming is crossing the path and the gyrfalcon is diving on the mountain heath.

For a longer hike, continue to the summit of Klitvallen, Klijhpenvaellie, 879 m.a.s.l. There are two options: a short but steep and sometimes difficult hike up the former ski slope and on to the north summit. High flowers and dense stands of willow grow in the clearing. An easier alternative is to follow the trail towards Grönfjäll and on the mountain heath turn off towards the south side of the peak. The view of Vojmådalen and the surrounding mountain landscape is magical. It is also possible to continue to Grönfjäll or Södra Matsdal.

From the other direction: Grönfjäll-Klitvallen-Matsdalsvägen

10 km one way.

A long, easy to moderately difficult hiking trail with several bridges and footbridges. There are some steep sections. The tour offers magnificent views regardless of which direction it is carried out. From Grönfjäll, the trail goes 3 kilometers to Klitvallen's Sami village. After that you are soon up on the easy-hiking mountain heaths. Here it is worth stopping to enjoy the extensive views of Grantonsskalet, Klippfjället, Jalkedsåejvie and Vojmådalen.

After about 8 kilometers, the trail passes Klitvallen's rest shelter before reaching the parking lot at Matsdalsvägen. This tour is also possible to complete in winter on skis by following the snowmobile trail. There is no public separate ski trail from Grönfjäll to Klitvallen. Note that the public snowmobile trail from Grönfjäll passes Klitvallen's Sami village and mountain massif before turning southeast to Dikanäs, i.e. it does not pass Klitvallen's rest shelter.
