Beskrivelse
There are no marked trails in the nature reserve, so you'll have to find your own way through the very old spruce forests.
Here and there are pine trees up to 200 years old. The presence of pine increases higher up on the slopes. In many places, the trees are draped with hanging lichens. There are plenty of rough deciduous trees and old standing and lying dead tree trunks with, among other things, the wood fungi rose thistle, star thistle and woolly thistle.
In the moss-rich spruce forests, the late orchid spider flower blooms in early summer. In the richer parts of the spruce forests, the fern also blooms in early summer with a single small greenish flower. Later in the summer it produces a poisonous black-blue berry. On spruce trees, you can see the gnawing marks of the wood-banded bark beetle and the ring-shaped nicks of the three-toed woodpecker. In spring-winter, the intense hooting of the pearl-bordered owl can be heard.
The slopes of Surmyrberget are steep in places and there are plenty of large boulders and rock crevices that can make the terrain a little difficult to negotiate. The rocky outcrops around Stormyrbergetstopp are a natural destination for a coffee break with views of the surrounding landscape.
The road barrier at road 92 is sometimes closed, then it is 300 meters to the reserve.
