A collection of water-powered grinding stones can be found 100 meters above Berglunds Järn in Hemavan. The foundation of Hemavan's prosperity was laid by mowing the meadows around the Ume River and Ahasjön, which were flooded by the spring flood, and the grinding stones ensured that the hay was freshly cut. A lot of hay was needed for cows and horses during the long winter. The mill site with water-powered grinding stones was built in the 1860s after the first settlements in Björkfors, the old name of Hemavan, were built in the mid-19th century. The mill site was in use until the end of the 19th century.
