Hemavan – Atoklimpen, Lapplandsleden

The first 11 kilometers consist of fairly open mountain birch forest with many well-spaced bogs. Here you travel through a myriad of small lakes with impressive views towards Norra Storfjället. In the middle of the route you are up on the bare mountain with views of the landscape. Here it is relatively easy to walk. The last 7 kilometers towards the lakes Skälvattnet and Kalven, it is a little denser forest with wetter parts.

At Skälvattnet, the marked hiking trail stops at 750 meters and is replaced by a rowing trail with boats.

The lakes around Jofjället are particularly recommended for those who like to fish. The waters are open to fishing with a government fishing license. There are several trails around the lakes for those who want to make detours.

At Aeiliesjaevrie, about 9 km from Hemavan, there is open forest a bit above the windbreak. Here you have nice views to camp by. Perfect if you want to do a shorter camping trip from Hemavan. If you want to go a little further, a nice first campsite is at the outlet of Seinesvattnet about 15 km from Hemavan or on the heights next to Goblejaur / Baktiejaur about 20 km from Hemavan. Here you are halfway to Atoklimpen.

After passing Rikarfjället, the trail descends into a stream gorge and here it can be nice to take a break at the bridge at Storbäckens waterfall before the trail climbs steeply again. When the trail comes up on the bare mountain again, there are many good campsites at one of the small lakes. Now it is 15 km left to the Atoklimpen cultural reserve.

After another bit, the trail turns down through the forest towards Skälvattnet. There are not many suitable tent sites here, but when the trail approaches Joesjö, there is a good spot by a small clear blue lake before the trail reaches Lake Kalven. Here it is about 9 km to Atoklimpen nature reserve.

In the Atoklimpen cultural reserve, it may be worth stopping for a day and walking the 9-kilometer trail around the mountain. There is also a trail to the summit (1,006 meters above sea level). Next to Risbäcken there is a picnic area with a fireplace, benches and tables. You can camp a bit up along Risbäcken. Remember not to camp around Atostugan. The cabin and hut are not for overnight stays.
