Furuberget

Furuberget has the feel of virgin forest, situated on the steep north-eastern slopes with its spruces draped in witch’s hair. The oldest spruces are 300 years old, while some of the pines are 350 years old. The area can be accessed from a forest road that runs to the north of the reserve.

Small ravines carved by brooks down the eastern and western sides of the mountain are home to virgin spruce forest containing a great deal of dead wood. In the reserve there are many rare and red-listed species that are dependent on old, natural forests. The forest in Furuberget has been almost entirely unaffected by forestry.
