The bronze sculpture Hind with Fawn is naturally situated in Arvika’s lush city park, where it has stood since its unveiling in 1965.

Artist: Arvid Knöppel (1892–1970)

A versatile artist, Knöppel trained at Althin’s School of Painting, the Technical School, and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm, followed by further studies in Munich, Italy, and Switzerland. He is best known for his drawings and sculptures of animals, but was a multifaceted creator who also worked in stainless steel and contributed to the decoration of churches and public buildings.

From 1944 until his death in 1970, he lived in Sälboda, north of Arvika. There, he established the once nationally renowned Knöppelåsen Wildlife Park – a sanctuary for Nordic wild animals – in order to have access to subjects and models for his artistic work.
