Beskrivelse
There are traces of fire on the 300-400-year-old pines as well as on the lying and standing dry trees.
The forest in the western and central parts is pine-dominated, lean and fairly sparse with small elements of spruce and leaves. Most of the pine forest is of the lichen-rice type with an age of around 130 years. In the west there are several pine overhangs with an age of 300-400 years. There are relatively many lying and standing dry trees and stumps. Almost all the dead pines and some of the living ones have marks from fires, known as fire scars.
The reserve was established to preserve and manage the area's natural forest, increase the volume of dead wood, preserve endangered species and habitats for woodland birds. The area is part of the EU's ecological network of protected areas, Natura 2000.
Animals and plants
The reserve is home to several rare species such as: coal lichen, lung lichen, aspen yellow lichen, old spruce bark and three-toed woodpecker.

Rutevejledning
The reserve is located in Värmlands län, Torsby municipality, about 10 km northeast of Likenäs. Along road 62 in Likenäs, there is a turn-off to the east with signs for Malungsfors. Follow the road past the shop, mill pond and turn-off towards Malungsfors. Then follow the signs for Nitro Metall AB. After about 9 km (from Likenäs) turn right onto a small forest road. Continue 2 km and turn right again and then turn left towards the reserve.
Regler
In the reserve it is forbidden to:
- collect invertebrates, such as beetles and land snails
- collect mosses, lichens and wood fungi
- damage or remove trees and shrubs, including dead wood such as lying and standing dry trees and dry branches
- driving vehicles.
Without the permission of the county administrative board it is forbidden to:
make organized use of the area for commercial purposes, and for schools and institutions to make regular use of the area to carry out scientific or other investigations.
