Beskrivelse
The area is varied and has a variety of habitats, which creates good conditions for various lichens, mosses, fungi and wood-living insects.
Påterudsskogen has a high proportion of aspen, but there are also other species of deciduous trees, mainly birch. The nature reserve was established to preserve valuable, deciduous, old coniferous forest.
Animals and plants
Valuable, older, hardwood-rich coniferous forest with important structures such as dead wood, deciduous trees and old rough trees make the area an important habitat for e.g. white-backed woodpecker and species that have the same requirements for their surroundings. Due to burning, the area is rich in aspen. There are several threatened species and signal species in the area, including the three-toed woodpecker, the greater flat-backed beetle, brown-powdered needle lichen, lung lichen, wood moss and candelabra fungus.

Rutevejledning
The reserve is located in Värmlands län, Eda municipality, about 9.5 kilometers northwest of Koppom. Drive south from Koppom about 3 km and turn right towards Remjäng. Continue about 4 km and turn right towards Påterud/Strömsmark. Continue about 6 km north to Påterud. There you turn right before Gettjärnet and continue about 2 km to Rövattnet, the reserve is visible on the other side of the lake. To reach the reserve you have to walk over streams and marshes, so boots are good to wear.
Regler
In the reserve it is forbidden to:
- collect invertebrates such as beetles, snails and butterflies,
- collect mosses, lichens and wood fungi, damage or remove dead wood such as lying or standing dry trees or dry branches,
- without the permission of the county administrative board, make organized use of the area for commercial purposes, and for schools and institutions to regularly use the area to carry out scientific or other studies,
- drive vehicles.
