Beskrivelse

Munkmossarna is a large, relatively untouched and diverse bog complex with high ornithological values
Munkmossarna is a large mosaic-like bog complex dominated by eccentric, sloping and slightly arched bogs, while topogenic fens occur to a lesser extent. Several of the bogs are rich in pools. The most obvious is the presence of pools on the second northernmost bog and the second southernmost bog. Between the pools there are often pine-covered strands. Edge forest occurs occasionally around the bogs. There are also several ponds and streams in the area.

The area's natural and conservation values consist of a large, relatively untouched and diverse bog complex with high ornithological values. In the country's marsh bird inventory, Munkmossarna was classified as the highest value class. Furthermore, Munkmossarna is classified as having the highest natural value class in the county's wetland inventory and is also designated as Natura 2000.

Animals and plants

Several bird species that are designated in the Birds Directive nest in the area. The little grebe is a migratory bird that nests in small, fishless marsh puddles with small rocking plane islands and with flat rocking plane-like shores.

The crane is a migratory bird that nests in wet marshes, often surrounded by swamp forest or water to make the nest inaccessible to terrestrial predators.

The golden plover nests on open moorland and generally requires open areas of more than 30 hectares.

The Green-winged Teal nests on the wetter grassy or sedge-covered part of the mire.

The barn owl nests in hollow trees, especially pine chimney stumps. Hunting takes place over open ground such as bogs and clearings.

The barn owl is most often found in areas bordering clearings or larger bogs.

The black grouse occurs on bogs and the immediate surroundings of bogs, as well as on early successions after clearings and forest fires. The open mire is often a playground for the roosters in spring.
