Beskrivelse
Malbäckskölen is located in Värmland's Finnmark region. It is likely that the area was once used for forest grazing, mire mowing and transportation to the settlements.
The forest on the moraine ridges in the bog is characterized by fire and contains plenty of old pines and deciduous trees, while the forest on the mountain slope is largely spring-affected meadow spruce forest with the presence of tall herbs such as mountain laurel and wreathwort.
The reserve was established to preserve and manage a valuable forest-marsh mosaic, with wooded moraine ridges, moisture-rich spruce forests and wetlands.
Animals and plants
Within the reserve, 12 red-listed species have been noted so far, all linked to old trees or dead wood. Examples include the spruce bark beetle and the spruce bark beetle, which are associated with dead spruce wood, and the violet-grey thorn lichen, which grows mainly on old, late-growing spruce and birch trees.

Rutevejledning
Location: Värmlands län, Torsby municipality, about 20 km NW of Bograngen.drive north from Bograngen and through the village Järpliden. After 14 km (counting from Bograngen) comes a road division towards Possåsen and Norway, continue past it and straight ahead for another 11 km. Turn right, parking is after about 700m. The road is closed during the thaw.
Regler
In the reserve it is forbidden to:
- collect invertebrates, such as beetles and land snails
- collecting mosses, lichens and wood fungi
- damaging or removing dead wood such as lying and standing dry trees and dry branches
- driving vehicles.
Without the permission of the county administrative board it is forbidden to:
- make organized use of the area for commercial purposes, and for schools and institutions to make regular use of the area to carry out scientific or other studies.
