KP-huset

"A modern furniture department store with no equivalent in the Swedish countryside" was written in 1946 when the new building for KP-möbler was completed. The owner Jenny Nilsson had been in Stockholm where she was inspired by NK and other modern department stores with open floor plans.

Back in Arvika, she presented her ideas to the town architect Werner Gjerming, who designed a modern brick building with a central courtyard and a curved marble staircase in the middle. Around the light court, the latest furniture proposals were presented.

The building was also equipped with an elevator, air conditioning, a lunch room and large windows. Werner Gjerming was the town architect in Arvika for 30 years, between 1938-1968, and had a major impact on the town's buildings.
