Beskrivelse
Lake Sävasjön is an obvious visit for nature lovers. The reserve consists of a small lake with surrounding deciduous and coniferous forest. Just north of Sävasjön you can hike on the Gästrikeleden trail. From the forest road east of the reserve you can walk on a marked path down to the shore of Lake Sävasjön. There is a small picnic area with tables and benches. The beach offers a nice view of the lake. The area is located 12 kilometers southeast of Gävle and covers 42 hectares.
Valuable for many
The fertile soil means that deciduous trees such as ash, elm and maple also grow here. When the last ice sheet came in from the Bothnian Sea, it released large amounts of lime-rich material here. Lime in the soil provides a very special and species-rich plant and animal life.
There are 17 orchid species in the area and all are protected. Among other things, guckusko, marsh marigold, woodruff, bride's spurge, marsh helleborine, flyflower and yellow saxifrage grow here.
In addition to the species-rich flora, there is also exciting wildlife in the nature reserve. The lake is home to leeches and great crested newts, among others. In summer, colorful dragonflies fly around. You can hear the whistling wings of the lapwing by the lake. In the deciduous forest, you can find woodpeckers, lesser spotted woodpeckers and three-toed woodpeckers.

Rutevejledning
From road 76: Turn off towards Grindduga, and then towards Mårtsbo. After almost 2 kilometers, turn left towards Glamsen. After about 8.5 kilometers, turn right towards Sävasjön nature reserve. From the E4: Turn off towards Älvkarleby and Älvkarleö. After 3.5 kilometers turn left towards Glamsen and Mårstsbo and after 1.8 kilometers turn right towards Grindduga. After 2.5 kilometers turn right towards Sävasjön nature reserve.
Regler
Special rules apply in the nature reserve. It is not allowed to:
- drive motorized vehicles other than on roads intended for motorized traffic. Exceptions apply to moose tractors or similar that are needed to transport larger game from the area during the hunting that is permitted in the nature reserve
- taking firewood, making fires or camping
- damage, pick or collect plants, animals (including insects), fungi and lichens. However, picking berries, mushrooms and flowers for personal use is allowed
- climbing trees, staying near a bird of prey's nest, lair or pot, or otherwise deliberately damaging or disturbing wildlife, with the exception of hunting that may be carried out in the reserve
- break branches, fell or otherwise damage living or dead trees and shrubs, or do other damage to living or dead trees and plants
- bring an unleashed dog or other unleashed pet. Exceptions apply to dogs during the hunting that may be conducted in the reserve
- put up a board, poster, poster, sign or make an inscription
- damage solid objects or surfaces, such as moving or removing stones
- riding a horse or bicycle
- using recorded sound in a disturbing way, or using it to attract birds or other animals
