Beskrivelse
In and around Uppsala there are eight Linnaeus trails, reconstructions of Linnaeus' own excursion routes. The Waxalavandringen, Herbatio Waxalensis, starts in Nyby, and leads the walker out over the fields and meadows east of the city. You walk along a country road, past pastures and through forest. Today's starting point is temporary due to several new constructions in the area. But then follows largely the same route as Linnaeus walked.
Linnaeus gathered the students at Vaksala customs at the current junction Kungsgatan-Vaksalagatan. From there they followed Vaksalagatan to Vaksala church and on over the meadows at Eke and Jälla.
The walk ends at Törnby, which was Linnaeus' parsonage. The income from a parsonage farm goes to pay for a professorship. The farm in Törnby thus belonged to the university and paid Linnaeus' professorship.
The entire walk is 13 km long, but it can be divided in several ways.
Read more about the Vaksala walk on the Linnaeus Trails website. There you can also download a leaflet with more information.
