Idön

Take a trip back in time to an old-fashioned archipelago environment. On the southernmost tip of Gräsön you will find a mixture of old forest, open meadows and pastures.

On Idön, you get an insight into how the archipelago farmers of old shaped a landscape that has become rare today. In those days, it was important to make use of nature's resources. The deciduous trees were felled and the branches cut off to provide winter feed for the animals. Meadows were mown for hay. Crops were grown in the fields and animals were grazed in the forest.

Most of Idön consists of forest with trees of varying ages. Thanks to the calcareous soil, many different herbs thrive here. In spring, the ground is covered with bluebells and in summer you can enjoy beautiful orchids. Your imagination will run wild when you find plants with names such as dwarf horsetail, woundwort and witch hazel. In some parts of the forest, fallen trees are scattered around, giving the area a primeval forest feel. In other parts, animals graze to keep it open and bright.

The reserve also has small meadows and pastures, cliffs and shallow bays. A trail leads you through the area.
