Beskrivelse
By the Nedre Dalälven river, not far from Gysinge, is a flat wetland area that has been characterized by the recurring floods. The rich and varied nature and the great availability of insects mean that many bird species thrive.
Along the Dalälven there are large areas that were previously flooded at regular intervals. In the flooded areas, river meadows, flood plains, species-rich riparian forests and extensive swamp forests were formed. Today, the water in the Dalälven is regulated, but despite this, the wetlands at Hedesundafjärden are of the highest class. There are marshes, lush forest groves and a fine bog.
Several interesting mosses thrive in the swamp forest, such as the brittle broom moss, which grows here in one of the southernmost places in Sweden. The area is also home to many bird species. Perhaps you'll be lucky enough to see a sea eagle or osprey soaring over the water. Or to scare up a grouse or capercaillie in the forest.
There are no marked trails in the reserve. But starting at the information board next to road 272/56 (if you come from the north) you can walk along a former railway embankment and on footbridges, former railway bridges, over the Dalälven River to Gysinge.
Please respect the sensitive environment during your visit and leave the wilderness untouched. There are special rules in the nature reserve, click on the link below to get to the reserve regulations.
