Beskrivelse

The Björns archipelago nature reserve is located north of the Hållnäs peninsula, in the southern Bothnian Sea. The archipelago consists of six large islands and a large number of smaller skerries, islets and shallow areas. In the southern part, it is quite difficult to access with lots of rocky ridges and stones in the waterline. A fairway runs straight through.

The archipelago is undeveloped, except on the outermost island of Björn, where there is an old, typical lighthouse keeper's environment consisting of a lighthouse, lighthouse keeper's and lighthouse keeper's residence, outbuildings and a small harbor with a pier. Björn is a flat island that is heavily exposed to the Bothnian Sea. Along the northern side, the beaches consist of rocks and cliffs. On the south side, the beaches are rocky. The entire island is accessible to the public, with the exception of the lighthouse keeper's house and the land around it, which is privately owned.

On the island of Källen, south of Björn, there are fine smooth rocky outcrops on the north-eastern side where many people moor their boats to sunbathe and swim.

On the mainland is Fågelsundet fishing village. Here you will also find the Fågelsundets nature trail, a 2 km long path that runs through the forest, past the Kallviken wetland where in early summer you can hear the frogs and back along the beach with cliffs and sea views.

The Björn archipelago has a very rich bird life with about 3500 breeding pairs of shorebirds. The island of Björn is a famous location for birdwatchers. The islands around Klubbaren, Stenarna and Västerskian are set aside as a bird protection area with access prohibited from 15/4-31/7. Fishing with hand gear in the Björn archipelago is free, and the main species fished are perch and herring.

Service: Nature trail at Fågelsundet. At Björn there is a fireplace, possibility to camp at the harbor, dry toilet. The lighthouse keeper's house can be rented, click on the link below to read more.

Trustees. Upplandsstiftelsen. Fågelsundets nature trail is managed by Tierp municipality.
