Fakta
It got its name from the fact that King Karl XI is said to have stopped here in 1686 when he was traveling to Västerdalarna. He was to inspect the defense facilities against Norway. The king came riding from Lillhärdal and inspected Rot Skans, which was just such a facility. In Älvdalen, he spent the night in the vicarage. The King attended a wedding in Travargården, where he gave the bride and groom a gift of money. The King is said to have danced with the bride. The woman who played the harp received 6 riksdaler. Älvdalen Parish, on the occasion of its 100th anniversary as a separate parish, also received a monetary gift
