Beskrivelse
You are standing on historic ground now. Already 5,000 years ago, people lived in these areas. They lived, loved, argued and did their best to survive. When an important person died, they buried him under a pile of stones, called a burial caim. The large burial caims here in Vieboda are from the Bronze Age (1700–500 BC). In the middle of these burial caims there is often a large coffin made of heavy stone slabs in which the deceased has been buried together with grave goods. The gifts can be utility objects made of clay and stone but sometimes also bronze objects. In the center of the largest burial caim, 25 meters in diameter and 2.5 meters high, parts of a stone coffin can be seen. The casket was examined in 1916 - then flint chips and both burned and unburned human bones were found. These burial caims are located high and were once visible from afar when the landscape was more open than it is today. The ancient remains in Vieboda give an idea of the connection between the prehistoric waterway on the Ronnebyån and the locations of the graves. Traces of the early cultivations and medieval arable land of the farming village of Vieboda can be seen around the burial caims. Vieboda is mentioned in preserved written evidence from 1476.
