Abborrtjärnsberg, Naturreservat

Abborrtjärnsberg is a well-preserved farm. The land has been farmed for over two hundred years, primarily through cattle grazing but also haymaking. This has resulted in a well-managed flora, including field gentian.
The special cultivation of the forest Finns in remote forest areas with slash-and-burn agriculture, forest grazing and mire mowing created open land in previously forested outlying areas. There are records of people living on Abborrtjärnsberg from the early 19th century.

Two farms were built - Södra and Norra Abborrtjärnsberg, but only Norra Abborrtjärnsberg remains today. The land was managed by haymaking until the mid-1940s. The land is maintained by haymaking and has recently been restored. The buildings are owned by Finnkulturföreningen Solör.

The reserve was established to preserve and care for an old Finn village in an old-fashioned agricultural landscape with associated buildings and a managed flora. The area is part of the EU's ecological network of protected areas, Natura 2000, and the EU's Life-Nature fund has part-financed the restoration of this Natura 2000 site.
