From forest to dispersal corridor
The nature reserves Björshus Link to another website-Drakamöllan Link to another website in the north and Verkeån subarea 1 Link to another website in the south both contain dry heathlands that are home to several threatened species of plants and animals. The reserves have long been separated by forest plantations of mainly pine, which has prevented animals and plants from spreading between the areas.
Maglehem's ora has been used in different ways since time immemorial. The land has been cultivated and domestic animals have grazed here. When the reserve was established, the whole area was a production forest. This is gradually being felled and the area is being returned to natural pasture with occasional deciduous trees and shrubs. Cows and horses will keep the land open.
Wildlife, bugs and plants
The living conditions in the reserve will gradually develop so that plants, small game, reptiles and insects typical of moorland can spread. For example, heather, sheep's fescue, sand lizard, various butterflies and dung beetles can be expected to establish themselves in the reserve.

In English
Welcome to Maglehems ora Nature Reserve
Maglehems Ora is a narrow site which will develop and connect two larger nature reserves. There are no footpaths in the reserve, so visitors need to find their own way around.
From plantation to dispersal corridor
The Nature Reserves of Björshus - Drakamöllan to the north and Verkeån to the south, are both dry heaths containing many threatened species of plants and animals. The Reserves have long been separated because of forestry plantations, primarily of pine, which has stopped animals and plants from dispersing between the sites. Maglehems Ora will act as a green corridor between the two reserves.
Exciting transformation
Maglehems Ora has long been exploited in different ways. The land has been cultivated and livestock have grazed here. When it was made into a Nature Reserve, the whole area was a forestry plantation. This will be felled in stages and the area will be allowed to return to a natural pasture with a few broadleaved trees and bushes. Cows and horses will keep the area open.
Mammals, insects and plants
Living conditions in the Nature Reserve will develop so that plants, small mammals, amphibians and insects, typical for heathlands, can disperse. It is expected that species such as heather, sheep's fescue, sand lizard, different butterflies and dung beetles will become established in the Reserve.
