Ryfors smithy (rest area)

At Hammarbron there is a group of buildings. The white house was the laundry. It was also used as a hot bathhouse and sauna. Next to it is Ryfors Upper Power Station from 1910.

In 1742, privileges were obtained for a bar iron hammer with two German hearths. Around 1823, a forge was also built for the manufacture of various iron objects. The hammer was placed on Sörarp's land.

In 1827 the mill was bought by Gudmund Magnus Sager (1801-1858) who expanded the business further. In the 1860s, so-called Franch-comté hearths were installed. A new bar iron hammer from Söderfors mill was installed in 1866. In 1881 a new forge was built. The bar iron production was completely shut down in 1906. The smithy burned down in 1927, but the bar iron hammer was saved and restored in 1996. Its original location was closer to the Tidan, approximately where the upper power station is now located.

**Ryfors Lower Power Station

Downstream of Tidan at Ryfors Lower Power Station there is a sawmill, a beautiful warehouse, a former shop, the old dairy, various machine buildings and housing. Although most of the buildings remain, they may now have a different function. Just below the lower power station was the blast furnace that was moved here from Svenshult in 1798.
