Fräkentjärnarna naturreservat

Fräkentjärnarna is located in the northernmost corner of Rättvik, right next to the border with Gävleborg County. The forest is old and heavily affected by fire.

In the Fräkentjärnarna nature reserve, you can get acquainted with something that is becoming increasingly rare in Swedish nature, namely really old trees. There are many pine trees here that have survived their 200th birthday. These pines have stood the test of time, surviving everything from drought, nutrient deficiencies, parasite attacks and storms to freezing cold winters.
