Beskrivelse

This fairy-tale forest of conifers has been left partly untouched for over a hundred years. Moss has settled over rocks and stumps. Old, tired pines lean against each other and sway in the wind. Not a sound when you put your feet on the soft coniferous cover. There is a lot of dead wood here, which means that many fungi, mosses and ticks thrive. Several are rare and endangered. For example, you can find species with imaginative names such as aspen cap moss, green shield moss, fire tick and large aspen tick. Talbyskogen is a lovely walking forest near the city with high natural values. On the slope down towards Lake Mälaren you can see about 10 meters wide bumps with a small ditch around. These are the remains of coal mines that were used in the early 1900s to create coal for heating inside Södertälje city.

There are many well-used paths in the reserve. An excursion alongside the path gives you great nature experiences and a real forest feeling, despite the location near the city. There are fine vantage points in the north-western part on the rocks above Lake Mälaren and in the central parts of the area. Below the mountain in the northwest corner, you can follow Mälarstranden with nice coffee places and large blocky coniferous forest.

The reserve was established in 2004, is 42 hectares in size and is managed by Södertälje municipality. Each nature reserve has specific regulations for the public. Find out about them online or on information boards on site before you visit the area.
