Görvälns slott

In the area around Görväln Castle, you can easily spend a whole summer vacation week without getting bored. There is culture, art and beautiful nature for walks and runs around Lake Mälaren, which also offers several swimming spots. The castle is located on a bay of Lake Mälaren in Görväln Nature Reserve and is surrounded by fertile farmland. The site was probably first settled in the Middle Ages and farming is still practiced here.

A well-preserved treasure

The entire farm environment is unusually well preserved. The oldest buildings date from the 1650s and some are still used for municipal agriculture and landscape management. The castle houses a hotel, conference facilities and a restaurant.

Järfälla municipality bought the land in the 1960s and turned Görväln into a recreational area. In 1995, Görväln nature reserve was established.

The castle has a sculpture park and old avenues where lime is the most common tree species.

Exotic castle park

Around the castle there is a park with about 150 different species of trees from all over the world. Spring and early summer are a good time to visit the castle park for those who want to enjoy flowers.

In the spring, the lawns are covered with yellow flowering spring bulbs and you can also find the unusual yellow coneflower here. It looks just like a wood anemone but has yellow flowers instead of white. In late spring and early summer, you can wander through the rhododendron valley and enjoy the exotic large flowering shrubs.

In the old henhouse in the courtyard east of the castle there is a picnic area. Here you can sit down and eat a packed lunch. There is an outhouse next to the cabin.
