Beskrivelse
The name Glömsta is thought to mean Glume's place. Glume, Ärengunn and Sverker probably lived here during the Iron Age. A terrace to the west may have been the site of a longhouse. They are probably buried in the burial ground, which dates from the Late Iron Age/Viking Age. The most common practice during the Iron Age was for the dead to be burned at the stake in their fine clothes. The burnt bones and other remains were then gathered and placed in a clay pot between some stones. The earth and stones were then shoveled over the pot to form a mound. They may also have been placed unburnt in skeletal graves. The cemetery has 12 visible Viking graves in the form of four mounds and eight stone circles. When Christianity took hold, the old burial grounds were abandoned and burials took place at the churches instead. The five large lime trees were planted by the owners of Glömsta farm over a hundred years ago.
