Beskrivelse
At Mölna, Kottlasjön has its outlet through Mölnaån to Saltsjön. Mölna jetty was the first jetty on Lidingö to be used by archipelago boats.
The area has many old oak trees, for example at Mölna mill pond, which is a wetland with a waterfall below the mill pond. In the river channel you can see common terns in winter and in the outlet channel you can see migrating fish some years at high tide. Mölna pier is one of the best places on Lidingö if you want to fish for sea trout.
Mölna farm has an interesting history and several culturally interesting remnants of the mill environment, including the mill pond and the stone-lined water channels. The mills are mentioned as early as the 16th century. At the end of the 18th century, the large windmill was demolished, but the ground floor was converted into the Mölna pavilion, which has been preserved. In the early 19th century, there was extensive industrial activity on the site when dyes were made from wood raw material from South America. At the end of the 19th century, the industrial premises were converted into rental accommodation for summer guests from Stockholm.
The area offers beautiful slopes down to the sea and a beach path towards Brevik. However, the beach is not accessible all the way, but at Mölna brygga you continue northeast across the meadow, up a staircase and via local streets to Sjöstigen and down to the water again.
In Brevik there is a nice marina and here is Breviksdammen, also called Svandammen. In the harbor you can see the herring gull, a species that Lidingö is set to have a little extra monitoring.
Where the meadows spread out in Brevik is Olympiadungen. Björkdungen dates back to the 1912 Olympics in Stockholm, when a football training ground was built here. It was mainly the American team that trained here. When the Olympics were over, the pitch was forgotten, but it turned out that the topsoil on which it was built contained large quantities of birch seeds. As they germinated, a birch grove spontaneously emerged. The birch stand is gradually being supplemented to preserve the grove.
