Erken Runt - bike ride

Erken is, after Lake Mälaren, the largest lake in Stockholm County. The name is old Swedish and means "The shiny" which is a good name for this clear lake. The area around Erken is rich in natural values. There are no fewer than twelve nature reserves of varying habitat types within 2 km of the shoreline.

Starting and ending in Järsö, the round trip around Erken is about 3.5 miles long. The cycling is mostly on paved roads. Several of the nature reserves along the route have hiking trails, shelters and rest areas.

Hasselhorn One of the nature reserves on the banks of the Erken is Hasselhorn. The area has a wildly varying biotope between deciduous forests to primeval coniferous forest. There is a beautiful marked hiking trail with several rest areas, shelters and a jetty for those arriving by canoe or kayak. The hiking trail is marked in orange and is about 4 km long.
