Albert Engströms ateljé

Albert Engströms Ateljé is incredibly beautifully located at the edge of the cliffs by the Åland Sea;

In order to build the studio so close to the sea, it had to be designed as a sea mark, a so-called navigation mark, so that seafarers could orient themselves by it to get into Grisslehamn. The studio is thus colored red on the sides facing the land but white on the sides facing the sea. Albert writes "Now my studio is finished. It is just as I want it and is located exactly where I want it. My friends will be able to stay there when they come to visit, and fall asleep to the most beautiful music there is."

The studio was used not only as a "guest house" and party room for family friends and fellow artists, but also as a dance hall for local youth.

The studio, which was converted into a museum by his son Lars Bruno, contains unique oil paintings, drawings and prints by Albert and many of his friends and fellow artists. There is also a collection of unique objects that Albert collected during his many travels. Knowledgeable guides tell visitors about Albert's life and times. Visitors will hear about the artist, the writer, the member of the Swedish Academy and the Academy of Fine Arts, the editor of the magazine Strix, etc;

In Ateljéviken there are excellent swimming opportunities with a lovely sandy beach and rocks. The area is untouched since Albert's time.
