Skogvaktarstugan och slottsparken

On the other side of the river, the large castle park spreads out. On top of the hill stands the magnificent Tyresö Castle overlooking the bay. The castle was built in the early 17th century, but the area was already of great importance in the Middle Ages, as the largest estate in the Stockholm area was located here, Tyresö Manor.

During the 18th century, the castle was rebuilt in Rococo style and the austere Baroque park was transformed into a romantic English park. Later, at the end of the 19th century, an attempt was made to restore the castle to a more grandiose appearance with battlements and towers. Today you can visit the castle, which is largely preserved as it was left at the beginning of the last century.

**Just on the other side of the bridge you are currently crossing stands the forest ranger's cottage, a cute house like something out of a Hansel and Gretel story. This is where the medieval wandering monks planted medicinal plants, including plague ragwort, which was used to protect themselves against the plague.
