Västra Kulltorp

The Västra Kulltorp nature reserve offers a mosaic of varied habitats, including deciduous forest with rich grove flora, trivial deciduous forest, older coniferous forest and natural pasture. In the spring, you can enjoy whitethistle, bluebell and tibast, while later in the season beautiful and rare mushrooms such as candelabra and coral tick adorn the landscape. Aspen is the dominant tree species, but the area also has a wide variety of other deciduous trees and spruce. Calcareous moraine in the soil provides an interesting flora with species such as bladderwort, sulphur plant and red-yellow trumpet fungus. The pastures are home to typical pasture species such as maidenhair, hogweed and sedge.

Västra Kulltorp has been noted for around 20 red-listed species and over 30 signal species, which testifies to its high natural values. The reserve is close to other protected areas, which promotes the conservation and spread of these species. The area has a rich cultural history, with mentions of the farm Västra Kulltorp from 1573 and traces of older buildings such as a house foundation from a ridge cabin from the 18th or 19th century. At Kulltorpsstugan there are the remains of an old smithy, a smokehouse and an earth cellar, adding to the historical charm of the area. Visitors can enjoy the scenic views of Lake Näsnaren and activities such as horseback riding, bird watching and mushroom picking.
