The road passes places that show that Mälardalen has long been an expansive area in the center of history. There are several remains from the late Viking Age, when the sea level was five meters higher than today and Mälaren was a sea bay. Runestones bear witness to journeys to the east, ancient settlements and farm formations. The historical significance of these places is also underlined by the many medieval churches along the way.

Along the way you will also meet prominent people from the Middle Ages to the Baroque. In Jäder, a museum tells the story of our foremost state builder, Axel Oxenstierna, who is buried in the adjacent church. In Sundbyholm you will find an exhibition about Karl Karlsson Gyllenhielm, the imperial admiral and son of the king, who is buried in Strängnäs Cathedral.
