Beskrivelse
The red deer is Skåne's landscape animal and Vombs fure is its core area in Skåne. The animal protection area in Vombs fure exists to ensure that the animals are undisturbed during the fall rut and the spring calving season. You are always welcome to walk on the roads, but not in nature in general. Access is prohibited for all or part of the year. Dogs are welcome as long as you are on foot and have them on a physical leash that is a maximum of 3 meters long.
The red deer is a very shy animal that lives in the undisturbed dense forest areas during the day. Only at dusk do they venture out into the open meadows along the Klingavälsån river to search for food. This is also where the rutting or mating takes place. In September, it is powerful to hear the rutting sounds of the deer after dark.
It is then forbidden to be in the area
To avoid frightening the animals, it is forbidden to go anywhere in the area except on the roads during the fall rutting season and the spring and early summer calving season. When it is forbidden to be in different parts of the area is shown on the map below and on signs in the field.
- Blue, large area A on the map - you are not allowed to stay here from April 15 to June 30 (calving season)
- Yellow area B along the river in the west - you are not allowed to stay here 25 August-7 October (mating season). Exception Voms meadows up in the northwest where it is forbidden to enter all year round (not included on the map!).
- Green area C on the map (wildlife tunnel under highway 11) - you must never be here.
It is always allowed to walk on the gravel roads in the area, even during the times when there is a trespassing ban. NB: trotting tracks and forestry tracks are not included.
The red deer was almost extinct 100 years ago
The red deer, or crown game as the species is also called, is Skåne's regional animal and belongs to the original fauna in Sweden. The species was described in 1746 by Carl Linnaeus and given the Latin name Cervus elaphus elaphus. In 1789, the royal hunting privilege ended, leading to the extinction of the red deer in several Swedish counties and eventually to its displacement to a few estates in southern Skåne. By the beginning of the 20th century, there were only around 50 animals left in Skåne. Since then, several conservation measures have been implemented and the population has recovered.
Vombs fure is the species' core area
During the 20th century, Vombs fure developed into one of the core locations for the Skåne red deer. During the day, they like to spend the day in the undisturbed dense forest areas found in Vombs fure, and at dusk they head out into the fields to the west where they search for food. The wooded areas in Vombs fure are also suitable calving grounds. The female, called a doe, gives birth to her calf in May - June.
Sensitive animals need undisturbed environments
Red deer are very sensitive to disturbance. The purpose of the animal protection area in Vombs fure is therefore to provide undisturbed environments for these animals. The spring calving and early summer nursery period is a particularly sensitive time. During the period April 15 to June 30, it is therefore forbidden to be in large parts of the area (sub-area A, blue bottom, in the attached map). The exception is roads and parking lots within the area. Another sensitive time is the autumn mating period. During the period 25 August to 7 October, it is therefore forbidden to be in the western parts along the Klingavälsån (sub-area B, yellow bottom, in the attached map). It is never allowed to be in the area with the wildlife tunnel under highway 11 (sub-area C in the south, green bottom, in the attached map).
Listen to the roar of the deer in September
The end of August to the beginning of October is the rut, the period when mating takes place. During this time, deer attract large numbers of hinds with powerful roars that can be heard from several kilometers away. Every year, large numbers of animals gather in the open fields down towards Klingavälsån during the rut. In order to avoid disturbing the animals during this period, it is forbidden to enter the area marked in yellow on the attached map (sub-area B). The access ban applies from August 25 to October 7. The ban does not apply to roads and parking lots for those who want to hear the powerful roar of the deer.

Clarification on dogs and roads
- Dog** : Regulation number 6 does not apply if a person on foot brings a leashed dog provided that the dog is kept with a maximum of 3 meters long physical leash. However, all other dog activities are prohibited even if the dog is kept on a leash or on a line; this means, for example, that track and search training with dogs as well as various forms of dog sledding (dog driving) where dogs are attached to a sled, cart, wagon or bicycle are prohibited within the animal protection area.
- Roads** : A forest road is a constructed road that must be able to handle heavy transportation, in this case the gravel roads in the area that are equipped with a boom at the exits. The more or less grass-covered roads are not counted as forest roads. Sometimes these roads have stones at the exits to the public road that prevent vehicle traffic. The racecourse is also not considered a forest road. Unfortunately, work is underway to clarify this in future decisions.
