Väla Skog

In the Väla forest nature reserve just outside Ödåkra you can find both old and large trees. Some date back to at least the 1700s. Others have a circumference of 2-3 meters.

In Väla forest you can easily get around on footpaths and bridleways or on the cycle path that runs through the area. There is also a barbecue area that you can use.

Vegetation thrives here because the ground is moist. Small pools of water appear everywhere. In spring, you can see the ground beneath the many oaks and beeches covered in vast carpets of flowers. You can find brilliant whitethroat, bright yellow swallowwort and yellow dock growing here.

You can also find the rare pale yellow sulphur-flower, a cross between yellow and white, and the protected orchid St. Peter's keys. In the bushier parts, you can see weaves of fragrant wild honeysuckle and ivy or rare wood dogwood, a shrub with white star flowers and burgundy fall colors.

Deciduous forest birds dominate the wildlife. There are around twenty species that regularly nest here. These include the nightingale and the greenish-yellow warbler with its teasing song. In the area you can also meet rabbits and field hares, foxes, badgers and stoats.
