Ullstorp, Naturreservat

The Frostavallen-Ullstorp nature reserve is part of the Frostavallen hiking area, which is managed by Höör municipality and the Skånska landskap foundation. The 100-year-old beech forest hides traces of both old crofts and old volcanoes. Trails of varying lengths show the way. The idyllic Vaxsjön lake offers fishing and refreshing swimming, as well as accessible walking trails. The lush beech forest invites you to wander all year round.

Beech forest with dense canopy

The dense foliage of the beech trees lets in a limited amount of daylight and only a few plants manage to live in the shade under the trees. These species include woodland chickweed, musk madder and wood sorrel. The characteristic bird of the beech forest is called the green warbler. It is quite difficult to spot but has a song that is easy to recognize. The song is reminiscent of the sound of a coin being spun and released on a hard surface.

Farm with ancestry

Ullstorp farm was first mentioned in written sources in 1606. The farmhouse got its current appearance around 1840. As late as the beginning of the 20th century, Ullstorp was surrounded by vast meadows.

Outdoor life

There are several hiking trails, picnic areas, fireplaces and overnight accommodation. Remember to take your rubbish home. Ullstorp is located just east of the popular bathing lake Vaxsjön and just outside the reserve two different Skåne trails meet (SL2 north to south, stage 6 and SL3 ridge to ridge, stage 7), the first of which goes through the reserve. There are also routes such as Ulltorpsslingan (4.6 km), which passes the old Ulltorp farm, and the accessible Vaxsjöslingan (2.9 km), which goes around the lake. The much longer Långstorpsslingan (9.9 km) takes you past Silverdalen and the old Djuraliden volcano, which offers a fine view. Parking is available on the west side of Vaxsjön. The nearest bus stop is Ullstorp Lundagård.
