Toarpskärret, Naturreservat

Toarpskärret is also called Ullstorpskärret and is located south of Tomelilla. In this pasture there is the very unusual habitat type of extreme rice marsh. An extreme environment that offers a large number of rarities. In early summer you will be greeted by a cascade of colors when May lilies, May carnations and sundews are in bloom. There are no outdoor facilities in this pasture. Remember that the ground is wet and that you should not have dogs among the grazing animals.

Ullstorpskärret in Ullstorpsdalen

Toarpskärret or Ullstorpskärret, as it is also called, is located in Ullstorpsdalen outside Tomelilla. The river Örupsån flows through the fields and pastures of the valley. Many of the pastures have been open hayfields and pastures for hundreds of years. Today, this is reflected in a great diversity of species with many plants and animals worthy of protection.

Extremely rich in lime and flowers

Toarpskärret is what is known as an extreme rich fen. These are very calcareous and moist grasslands, which are unusual in today's landscape. Extreme rice bogs are even more calcareous and even more unusual. Many endangered flowers and mosses live in this extreme environment, as well as insects and snails. Here in Toarpskärret's rich marshes and calcareous wet meadows, you can find the exclusive flowers large eyebright, honeysuckle and small waterwort. Some that are not quite so rare are mayweed, meadowsweet and the orchid mayweed. In the drier hills in the north, you can also see wood anemone, ground thistle and sundew. Insects that thrive in Toarpskärret include the black May beetle, the hill whistler, the lesser purple loosestrife and the six-spotted bastard swarmers.

Outdoor life and accessibility

There is no parking at Toarpskärret (Ullstorpskärret). There are also no paths or facilities for outdoor activities. The whole area is pasture land. Keep in mind that it is wet and not to have dogs among the grazing animals.
