Beskrivelse
The coastal meadows along the Sound have been used as grazing land since the Bronze Age and were once found along the entire coastal strip. Today, only a few areas remain. Here, a stone's throw from Malmö's industries, a variety of shorebirds nest in the nature reserve Södra Lommabukten with Tågarps hed and Alnarps fälad.
Shore meadows with long continuity
Shore meadow grazing, together with regular flooding of salty seawater, creates conditions for a unique animal and plant life. There is a low-growing grassy vegetation with, among other things, beach creeper, beach aster and salt marsh and many insects. Over 100 different species of butterflies and moths have been found on Tågarp's heath. Salt-resistant plants such as glasswort, saltwort and saltwort grow in the salt marshes, which are periodically filled with salt water.
Birds of the salt meadow
On Alnarp's field and Tågarp's heath, typical shoreline meadow birds such as shelduck, spoonbill, lapwing, redshank and yellowhammer nest. The elegant avocet with its long, upward-curved bill is another of the area's breeding birds. Many migratory birds pass through the area during spring and fall.
Shallow bottoms and eelgrass beds
The shallow bottoms of Lommabukten are a safe nursery environment for various fish species. In the swaying eelgrass beds, juvenile fish can find both food and shelter. Cod and eel are species that use the eelgrass beds as nurseries. There are also several species of flatfish, such as flounder, dab and turbot. The slender seaweed snail blends in easily with the long leaves of the eelgrass.
